What to Look for in a Parrot Insurance Policy

When buying insurance for parrots, or any kind of pet for that matter, knowing what to look for in a policy is the first step. From there it’s easy to compare the various policies available and see which company is the right one for you.

The most common forms of a parrot insurance policy are:

  • Vet Bills – The amount of cover you get against veterinary bills
  • Online Discount – whether you can save money by buying online
  • Equipment Cover – The amount your parrot’s equipment (cage etc) is covered to, if at all
  • Theft replacement – Whether or not your parrot will be replaced, in the event it is stolen

We also recommend looking at reviews and feedback of each of the policies as given by our community of helpful compareaholics.

  2. What treatments are not covered by bird insurance?

Generally, cosmetic treatments are not covered by pet insurance policies. Preventative treatments may also not be covered, although this can vary depending on the situation.

Yes. E&L offer a multi-bird/multi-pet discount of 10% for each subsequent pet you insure, up to a maximum of 20%.

Both E&L and Golden Valley offer equipment cover which provides cover for cages, averies & bird equipment.

  5. Are pre-existing conditions covered?
